Our Own Mrs. Magruder!

Ms. Elizabeth Magruder joined our teaching staff at the start of the 2008/2009 school year after substituting most of the previous year. Ms. Magruder took over a first grade class and quickly made a big impression! Both students and parents alike love her for her caring and compassionate way with children.

But not many people know that Ms. Magruder also attended Encino Elementary. Elizabeth was born and raised in Encino and attended 1st through 4th grades here. She remembers her teachers Mrs. Oaks, Mrs. Holloway, Mrs. Applebaum, and Mrs. Eich.  Mr. Shroyer was the Principal during her early grades until Ms. Lucente became the Principal. Ms. Buhai was teaching Kindergarten.

Elizabeth has many friends from her Encino days and many have moved back to Encino just like she has. Several of their children now attend Encino as does Elizabeth’s own four children. Gordon just graduated 5th grade from Ms. Atalla’s class, Jack just finished 3rd grade with Ms. Siskin. Madeline just graduated from Ms. Ferreira’s Kindergarten class, and Matthew will be entering Kindergarten next year.

Elizabeth went on to Curtis Middle School for 5th and 6th grade, Marlborough School from 7th through 12th grade, and then SMU and the University of San Diego where she earned a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Education.

Unfortunately, as a new teacher in our district, Mrs. Magruder was one of the many victims of the recent District-wide budget cuts. However, she has been substituting a lot at our school and we hope that she will return to our staff soon. Everyone at Encino Elementary misses Mrs. Magruder!
