Enrichment
Overview
Our after school Enrichment Program was launched in 2007 and is coordinated entirely by parent volunteers. In collaboration with multiple vendors we host a selection of classes ranging from art, culinary arts, dance, foreign language, music, sports, STEAM, theater and more.
During regular instruction, classes are conveniently held after school on the ECES campus.
The goal of offering these additional classes is to enrich the educational experience for the students at Encino Charter Elementary, as well as to raise much needed funds for other valuable school programs and materials. Over the years, the enrichment programs have brought in about 25-35% of our annual fundraising revenue.
Our students can exercise their minds and bodies while also giving back to the school - a win-win situation!
Please email enrichment@encinoelementary.net with any questions or concerns.
Our gratitude for your continued support!

Mondays: 9/14, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19
1. Farm-To-Table Explorers: Grades TK–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Where does honey actually come from? What makes bread rise? Every session is a hands-on food lab — kids taste-test heirloom fruits, plant edible seeds in classroom cups, and cook a real snack together without ever needing a stove. They leave with a recipe card, a tiny planter to grow at home, and a whole new relationship with the food on their plate.
2. K-Pop Dance Troupe: Grades TK–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Kids fall in love with movement through today's biggest kid-safe K-Pop hits. Each week adds a new 4-count section until they've mastered a full crowd-worthy routine. The last session is a Troupe Showcase on the auditorium stage — parents get a full-length video of the performance to keep forever.
3. Playground Games: Grades TK-5
Instructor: Coach D'Mitri
Have fun with Coach as you rotate through classic games. Get ready for classic playground fun! Students will enjoy a variety of games including handball, four-square, kickball, and more. This class encourages teamwork, friendly competition, coordination, and plenty of active play.
4. Spelling Bee Prep: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Spelling that finally sticks — because it's play, not drills. Kids battle in word-ladder games, guess-the-root races, and mock-bee bracket tournaments every session. By session end they've mastered 200+ new words and stood confidently at the mic — huge boost right before school spelling season.
Tuesdays: 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20
1. Beginner Persian Conversation: Grades TK-5
Instructor: Maliheh Barazesh
This class is designed for children ages 4 and up with little or no prior knowledge of Persian. Through hands-on, Montessori-inspired activities, songs, movement, art, and mindfulness activities, children are introduced to basic Persian vocabulary and everyday phrases. They will learn simple greetings and expressions while exploring topics such as colors, animals, fruits, and numbers in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.

3. Market Day Entrepreneurs: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Every child builds a real business from scratch — designs a product, prices it, makes a storefront sign, and pitches to real classmates on Market Day. Kids handle real cash, calculate change, and go home with everything they made plus what they earned. Watch your kid grow into a confident little founder over 7 weeks.
4. Mini Med School: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Kids become class doctors — real stethoscopes on their friends' heartbeats, X-rays on the projector, weekly "patient mystery" cases to solve as a team. Leaves them with a lab-coat name tag, an anatomy poster for their room, and the spark that might turn into a life's calling.
5. Mixed Media Artists: Grades TK–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
A full art class with a rotating medium every week — watercolor, collage, printmaking, clay, oil pastel. No cookie-cutter projects — kids' work looks different every week because they're making real art. Every child brings home 6-7 gallery-worthy pieces per session — perfect for the fridge, gifts, or their first mini art show at home.
Wednesdays: 9/9, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21
1. Confident Communicators: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
The one skill every kid needs and few classes teach. Weekly show-and-tell prompts, improv games, storytelling rounds, and a real TED-style talk at the parent showcase. Kids who start quiet by week 2 are commanding the room by week 6. This is the class parents tell us
was the game-changer.
2. Intermediate Persian Conversation: Grades TK-5
Instructor: Maliheh Barazesh
This class is designed for children who are already familiar with basic Persian phrases, greetings, colors, fruits, animals, and numbers. Through hands-on, Montessori-inspired activities, creative play, songs, movement, and mindfulness, children expand their vocabulary and develop their conversational skills. They will explore topics such as the seasons, weather, and transportation, while learning to understand and use more complex sentences and everyday expressions in Persian. They will also learn how to express different feelings and emotions in Persian.

Kick off the fun with an introduction to soccer! Students will learn fundamental skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and ball control while developing teamwork and sportsmanship.
4. Junior Shark Tank: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Kids invent a product, build a mini pitch deck, and sharpen their idea in front of class "sharks" every single session. Final week is a live parent Shark Tank night — kids pitch their fully-developed business to a friendly panel. Every kid takes home a bound business plan of their own creation.
5. Mad Science Chem Lab: Grades TK–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
The Instagram-worthy science moments parents wish they could recreate — foaming color-change reactions, DIY bouncy balls, elephant toothpaste, exploding art. Every experiment is kitchen-safe, and kids leave with a full lab notebook plus one recipe they can safely re-run at home so parents get to see the magic too.
Thursdays: 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22
1. Chess Masters: Grades K–5
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Full-board chess from week one — no gimmicks. Kids play real games every session, learn a new opening/tactic/endgame each week, and climb a class ladder. Take-home notation sheet plus a mini parent-guide means the game keeps going at the kitchen table.

3. Lego Architecture: Grades TK–5· Duplo track for TK
Instructor: Kodley Enrichment Company
Kids build real-world landmarks — Eiffel Tower, Empire State, Griffith Observatory, Bradbury Building — using authentic architecture principles (proportion, symmetry, structural loads). Every build is photographed and sent home. Parents watch their kid's engineering brain unfold over 7 weeks.
4. Musical Theatre: Mary Poppins - Grades TK - 2. Last class Nov 5th.
Instructor: Jubilee! Theater Company
This class is going to Practically Perfect! We are thrilled to invite younger performers (Grades TK-2) to "Fly a Kite" with us this Fall. Students will learn beloved classics like "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Step in Time", and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," culminating in the jolliest 'concert-style' performance for their friends and families in the ECES auditorium on Friday, November 6th at 4pm. made by their own kid.

The class kids beg to come back too. Ramps, marbles, dominoes, cups, string — kids build over-the-top chain-reaction machines that get wilder every week. The final session is a "longest working chain" contest, videotaped and sent home. Expect a real physics lesson from your 7-year-old at dinner.
